Oxford Institute for Energy Studies continue their digital transformation journey with a Microsoft 365 Managed Service
Solution Summary
The Oxford Institute for Energy Studies (OIES) is a world-leading independent energy research institute specialising in advanced research into the economics and geopolitics of the energy transition and international energy across oil, gas and electricity markets.
OIES originally approached Intelogy to assist with their Digital Transformation and Modern Work programme. Since the completion of the project, they have partnered with Intelogy to be its Managed Service Provider, supporting their Microsoft 365 tenant.
“When searching for an IT support service provider Intelogy stood clear of the pack, with a clear and comprehensive explanation of what they provide and an impressive list of existing clients. With no in-house IT expertise it was essential to us that we feel confident in the company we chose, we have not been disappointed.”
– Kate Teasdale, Administrator at Oxford Institute for Energy Studies

Challenges
Once a Cloud journey has started, the challenge is maintaining the space to ensure it stays secure and continues to operate as originally designed. OIES wanted a Managed Services Provider who was familiar with their configuration and one who could help them to build upon the success of the migration project. In the hybrid world, a partner with proven experience in the Modern Workplace tools available in Microsoft 365 was key. They were looking to rely on an organisation for problem resolution and assistance for change management and process improvements. Ultimately, they wanted peace of mind for their systems – to allow for continued focus on their organisational key objectives.
Solution Overview
The managed environment consists of a Microsoft 365 tenant – including a number of maintained devices via Intune and mail services via Exchange Online.
Additionally, our team implemented a backup process for their content from one of our trusted partners CloudAlly. Content from Exchange Online, Microsoft Teams and SharePoint are all protected. This service is routinely monitored and included in client reports, as well as general Microsoft 365 service health. A rolling scheme of maintenance, including patching applies to client devices via Intune. This aligns with the Microsoft patching schedule.
“Where new devices are required, we were able to procure these on behalf of OIES, and have them shipped ready to go, out of the box, courtesy of the Autopilot technology which we configure and manage via Intune. This also applies wherever there is the need to simply refresh a device”.
– Stuart Wilkie – Service Delivery Manager, Intelogy
With the growth in malware and phishing emails, OIES were looking for an understanding provider who could support and work with their non-technical users. Users just need IT to work, and have the peace of mind that when it doesn’t, or assistance is needed – there is an approachable and friendly team ready to support them.
“The Intelogy Service Desk team is super responsive, polite and efficient, the team understands that we are not all IT ‘fluent’ and always make sure to accommodate that. We know we can rely on the monitoring and updates that are part of our Service package, and all this goes on seamlessly behind the scenes, but, it’s the forward facing team that represent Intelogy to the client, and they do it superbly.”
– Kate Teasdale
At its heart, the Intelogy Managed Services team are on hand to support not only with the “break-fix”, but also the “how-to” and the reassurance.
Client benefits and results
This Managed Service has given OIES the ability to use Microsoft 365 without having to worry about how it is set up or managed. Any need for technical and user-based support or monitoring and remediation are combined in a single monthly cost bundle of service credits.
“Our flexible Managed Service was the ideal fit for a client such as OIES. We took away the pain and overheads for managing an IT estate – particularly for users of a non-technical background. All the maintenance, support and assistance are all wrapped up in a monthly allowance. Our monitoring service allows us to address challenges before they become an issue, giving confidence and reassurance to the organisation. Reporting of our activity each month is also provided for governance purposes.”
– Stuart Wilkie
As a trusted Microsoft Licensing Reseller, Intelogy were also able to provide the full wrap-around care for OIES in the Modern Work arena by providing any licences needed. This includes Business licences and Microsoft Teams service access. Intelogy include a range of additional products to complement their Microsoft 365 environment. These include Exclaimer (for signature management) and CloudAlly (for data protection and backup).
“If you want peace of mind and the assurance that your IT environment is in good hands, then Intelogy will provide it, I recommend them wholeheartedly.”
